A Good Year for UM Healthcare Trust
This year, 2008, has been a good year for our project. UM Healthcare Trust in close collaboration with our partners (USAID, NUST and APPNA), were able to launch regular healthcare services in rural Mardan District.
We are now treating almost 2,000 patients a month with 80% of them being females and children. To the poor and needy medicines are distributed free of cost. The doctors cosultation fee is a paltry PKR 30/visit. Which is no more than (US$0.35 cents/visit).
Now, we are now planning to add more services including a fully equipped medical lab ready to handle all standard tests including EKG and ECG. Currently, patients have to go to the city (Peshaw
ar or Islamabad hundreds of kilometers away) for such tests which is quite cumbersome, hard and expensive.
Some of our well wishers have donated money, equipment or services over the course of the year. The donations have been used to offer even more services to the poor and needy. So please keep your donations coming in.
At the trust, we pride ourselves in involving the local community in the day to day affair of running the facility. We also prefer to hire staff belonging to the region rather than bringing in folks from far off regions. This not only brings in sense of ownership among the staff but also creates opportunities for employment in the region.
The accompanying video gives a snapshot of our medical services in rural Mardan. This video is shot over the course of the year covers our various activities including medical camps, specialized medical trainings and regular health services.
